Investing in custom channel letter signs makes sense. It helps your company stand out from others doing business all around you. Besides that, the team at All Star Signs can do a lot of the heavy lifting when it comes to showing you various channel letters design options. Here is what a design consultation with our insiders can offer you.
Illuminated Channel Letters Come in Three Types
- Front lit. Technicians make the channel letter using aluminum. The material does not rust. LEDs go inside the letter. At the shop, we close the front of the letter with custom-cut acrylic or polycarbonate that we have painted in your brand color. After dark, the light shines through the front, which boosts the visibility of your corporate persona’s color palette.
- Reverse lit. If you prefer a halo-lit channel letter, we follow a similar construction pattern but will close the front with aluminum and the back with transparent polycarbonate. For the installation, we use standoffs that we cut to support the halo formation. As the light reflects off the wall, it bathes each of the 3D letters in a soft glow.
- Combination illumination. In some settings, installing a combination illumination sign could be an excellent option. It requires the addition of more LEDs, but it can be done.
By the way, we can also make non-lit channel letters. They are ideally suited when you want the advantage of 3D signs and letters with noticeable depths.
Let’s Talk about Channel Letter Returns
You already know that the letter body is made from aluminum, and the face or back cover is fabricated using polycarbonate or acrylic. However, there needs to be more attention given to the returns, which are the sides. They determine the thickness of each letter. While we can fully customize the appearance of the returns, the typical depths are either three, five, or eight inches.
Check your lease agreement to determine what your landlord, property management company, or zoning agency will allow. If you can make that selection yourself, invite our team for a site survey. We can help you determine the best sizing for the return so that your channel letters stand out but still fit in with the architectural details of your location.
A Closer Look at the LEDs
Here is another insider tip that can make a significant difference in the way your signage displays. Take advantage of colorful LEDs. While most of these products are clear, and businesses typically illuminate their channel letters with them, there is the opportunity to introduce colors to the lighting. Colorful LEDs let you amplify brand colors or differentiate front and halo-lit aspects of the same sign.
