What Is the Marine Corps Recruit Depot?
Situated right next to the San Diego International Airport, Marine Corps Recruit Depot is a military installation of the United States Marine Corps. Its main mission is the initial training of enlisted male recruits living west of the Mississippi River. Each year, they train more than 21,000 recruits. It is also home to the Western Recruiting Region’s Drill Instructors School and Marine Corps’ Recruiter School. Since 1923, the base has served as the Marine Corps’ recruit training center for the western US.
