Many business owners and other entrepreneurs pick channel letters signs for their venues because they make their building easy to find both day and night. With these illuminated markers, you can stand out after dark, which is a great way to promote your enterprise while helping clients locate your store. Channel letters are a popular signage solution, so we get a lot of questions about them. Here are the answers to some of the most common questions we get about channel letter fabrication:
How Are Channel Letter Signs Made?
At their most basic, each channel letter is made with a heavy-duty, rust-resistant aluminum “can” frame that is shaped to match the fonts, symbols, or logos you use in your branding. A translucent acrylic or polycarbonate face of any color you want is added to the frame. For most channel letters, LEDs are incorporated, and their light shines through the letter faces to create an elegant look 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
What Styles of Channel Letters Are Available?
The style described above is known as a front lit channel letter. However, not all channel letters have light shining through the front. Halo lit channel letters have aluminum faces, and the internal illumination escapes through the backs of the letters. The letters are mounted with about a two-inch gap between the letter and the wall to create a halo effect on the façade of your building. We can also combine front lit and halo lit letters for a distinguished look, or you can choose to have no illumination at all.
How Are Channel Letter Signs Installed?
There are two main methods for installing channel letters: raceway mounting and direct mounting. With raceway mounting, channel letters are installed on a raceway that is painted to match your branding or the exterior of your facility. The raceway contains all of the wiring and power supply. This option allows for minimal drilling into the façade of your venue.
Direct mounting requires more drilling since each letter is individually installed on the face of your building. Businesses typically prefer this option because it allows for a cleaner look. We can also custom mount your sign to match the specific needs of your establishment. For instance, you may choose to have your letters base mounted so that they look like they are standing on top of your building.
