California is at the forefront of the mobile marketing revolution. More and more business owners are harnessing the power of full and partial vehicle wraps to advertise and brand their companies. Do you ever wonder how to protect your vehicle wraps in California? After all, you are dealing with sunshine, ocean breezes, and the daily wear that driving these vehicles in rush hour traffic brings. Your vehicle wrap cleaning questions – answered!
Understand the Product’s Lifespan
Each product has a useful life. Vehicle wraps are no exceptions. A good-quality, properly installed wrap should last five to seven years. During this time, the wrap has the power to look as good as it did when you initially drove your car, truck, or van off our lot. When you go past the eight-year mark, you may see some breakdown of the vinyl material. However, during the product’s useful life, you should be able to enjoy a good return on investment – if you take care of it.
Choose Parking Spots Wisely
One of the easiest things that are entirely under your control is where you park the wrapped vehicle. Ideally, you park it in an underground garage or somewhere else where there is plenty of shade. If you opt for tree shade, avoid the types of trees that drip sap on the vehicle. For example, jacarandas in spring are not a good option.
Clean the Wrapped Vehicle Weekly or More Frequently if Necessary
If you park underneath a tree and find that a flock of birds has left droppings behind, clean these off immediately. The acidity of the bird droppings can attack the vinyl’s laminate if you leave it on for a prolonged period. Besides that, it is a lot easier to clean off when it is still fresh rather than baked on by the California sun.
Plan to hand-wash the vehicle once a week. We recommend a mild detergent that you mix with lukewarm water. Avoid the temptation to aim a high-power hose or pressure washer at the vehicle. Even though you might have done so in the past, consider that it will now damage the vinyl covering.
By the way, did you know that you do not need to wax wrapped vehicles? It is true! When we install a partial or full wrap, we add a laminate that protects the colors from fading. Waxing the car can lead to a chemical reaction that weakens the laminate. As a result, it is always best to wash, rinse, and towel dry.
