Our clients love plaques. In particular, cast bronze plaques in Southern California are the signage of choice for remembering a loved one, dedicating a building in someone’s honor, or explaining historical features in the area.
What Goes onto a Custom Plaque?
The short answer is ‘anything you like.’ All Star Signs does not work off stencils. Instead, we customize a plaque for each client. Do you need a military memorial plaque and want an accurate rendition of the Marines Military Seal? We can do that. Do you want to buy a centerpiece for your university’s lobby? Let us add its logo or seal. For the client who prefers a lot of written text, we can do that, too.
How to Shop for the Best Bronze Plaque
When you discuss your purchase with our graphic artist, we walk you through a menu of options.
- Shape. At the heart of the question is whether you want your information to display in landscape or letter format. Based on this selection, you might pick rounded tops or bottoms, bubble sides, or the illusion of an open book or scroll. Of course, we can customize the shape to display as a badge, circle, or another form.
- Border. Although straight edge borders look nice, clients often ask for a frame. A double line is popular because it creates an attractive visual transition from plaque to the mounting surface. Some clients ask for bevel borders that allow for a little shadow play.
- Rosettes. If you prefer not to have a straight edge around the plaque’s shape, consider adding a three-dimensional rosette. It could be a geometric shape or feature a symbol that underscores the information of the plaque.
Added Design Choices for All Star Signs Customers
Cast bronze allows your letters and symbols to display in three dimensions. However, what do you want the plaque’s background to look like? While we can most certainly accommodate requests for a perfectly smooth background, clients far more often prefer a texture. Examples include a pebble, leatherette, or travertine appearance. It adds visual depth to the display, which is undeniably attractive.
The colors are black or brown. Bronze finishes are generally satin or polished, depending on your preference. Some clients have begun requesting artificial aging. It gives the illusion that the sign underwent oxidation, making it look like the plaque has been at its location for a long time. The tell-tale green aging patina is also possible; however, we typically only apply it to a smooth background for uniformity.
