All Star Signs contracted with Erickson Hall Construction for another contractor project. In this case, we would be responsible for designing, producing, and installing interior and exterior signs at the ICOE (Imperial County Office of Education). We began the project by focusing on putting together building signs with baked enamel finishes in El Centro, CA.
Aluminum + Baked Enamel = Durable, Bright Colors for Years to Come
Our technicians used quarter-inch-thick aluminum for the letters and the design elements. Aluminum is sturdy and does well in full sun exposure. To ensure that the bright colors favored by the ICOE would remain looking vibrant for years to come, we applied the hues with a baked enamel finish. This treatment is an excellent method for preserving the liveliness of the sign’s overall look and feel.
What is the Best Sign Material for Outdoors?
All Star Signs routinely works with contractors and business owners who already know what they want. Aluminum is durable, suitable even for larger sign elements, and paintable. Because a baked enamel finish is an option, it can make a significant difference in the ways that customers interact with your brand.
That said, there are plenty of other sign materials for exterior signage products as well.
- Medium-density overlay (MDO). The MDO panel consists of plywood sheets that combine with a resin exterior for weathering. It cuts well, is suitable than custom signage designs, and becomes a favorite for panel signs.
- High-density urethane (HDU). This is a fully human-made material that is ideally suited for sandblasting. Doing so results in a three-dimensional display of letters and symbols, while the backdrop can be textured to mimic wood or stipple.
- Acrylic. Translucent acrylic looks a lot like glass; however, it does not shatter and is far more stable. Moreover, acrylic does fantastic in heat and cold. Flat-cut acrylic letters and boards with custom shapes look great. Moreover, consider the design of an acrylic board with three-dimensional letters.
- Dibond. This material consists of a polyethylene middle that is sandwiched between two aluminum sheets. This combination results in a sturdy sign with just a little give, which is excellent for spaces where there is a lot of wind exposure that might cause a single piece of aluminum to bend.
- Sign foam. Outdoor-rated sign foam comes in various sizes and weights. The higher the weight rating, the longer-lasting the product will be. In this way, you can work with your budget range to get a sign that lasts as long as your lease.
