There have been remarkable changes in the signage industry in just the past decade. And, every year, there are new advances being made. One recent development that has revolutionized how sign shops do their jobs is digital printing. At All Star Signs, we use the most state of the art, wide format digital printers for our projects throughout San Diego County.
What Is Digital Printing?
Digital printing prints directly from a digital file sent to a laser, inkjet, or other kinds of a digital printer. This is in contrast to offset printing and other commercial methods that use printing presses and plates. The benefits of this process are many:
- For those unfamiliar with commercial printing methods, file preparation can be less complicated.
- When doing smaller print-on-demand jobs or producing short runs, it can be less time consuming and more affordable.
- The level of quality is comparable to that of offset printing.
- Digital printing makes it less expensive and simpler to print multiple variations or to make last minute changes to a print job.
- There is no expense associated with setting up the presses or plate making.
Another benefit is that you do not have to deal with color separations when doing digital printing. This is a feature you see with offset printing. This keeps your price affordable no matter how many colors you want to incorporate into your signage.
What about Wide Format Digital Printing?
Wide format printers can usually print on just about any material between 17 and 100 inches wide. Rather than using single sheets of paper, as you might use at home, wide format digital printers use large rolls of material. The printers even include hot air drying to prevent prints from sticking to themselves.
Using our cutting edge wide format digital printer, we are able to render images of any size for you, whether you are looking for wall graphics or a full-size billboard.
What Is Digital Printing Used For?
Digital printers can print on materials as big as three inches thick. This includes acrylic, foam board, PVC, card stock, coroplast, and much more. However, the material we print on for most of our jobs is vinyl, one of the most versatile materials in the signage industry. With digital printing, we produce:
- Banners
- Posters
- Vinyl lettering
- Vehicle graphics and wraps
- Window, floor, and wall graphics
- Decals
- Wayfinding and directory signage
- Exterior building signs
- And much more!
Thanks to digital printing technology, the only limiting factor to how large we can make your signage is the size of the image file you provide us with. Of course, when you have our team of graphic designers on the job, the possibilities are virtually limitless.
